2010 Elaine Beals Conservation Award Presented to Linda Hubley

At its annual meeting on May 11, 2010, the Southborough Open Land Foundation presented the Elaine Beals Conservation Award to Linda Hubley. Linda was given the award for her life-long devotion to environmental education and conservation work. Linda was the first female state park supervisor in 1981, supervising Walden Pond State Reservation for five years. She was also supervisor for ten years of the Hopkinton/Ashland State Park Complex, including Whitehall State Park and Marlboro State Forest.

Linda taught environmental education in preschool - grade 8 for private and after school programs in Southborough. Her two children are fourth generation Southboroughites and have gone through the Southborough School system, sports groups, Kindergroup and Scouts. Linda has also served on the Southborough Recreation Facilities Committee, Southborough Conservation Commission, Southborough Roads Safety Committee, chaired the Finn School Fair, chaired the Neary School Winter Carnival and Mentor program and co-chaired and started the Sudbury River Watershed and Monitoring Protection, now the Sudbury River Watershed Organization. She also co-chaired the Southborough Animal Disaster Preparedness committee and helped write the animal disaster plan for the Town of Southborough along with being an assistant 4-H horse club leader for the past eleven years.

Presently she is working for the United States Department of Agriculture in its battle in the Worcester area against the Asian Longhorn Beetle.

State Representative Carolyn Dykema was also present to give Linda a citation from the Massachusetts House of Representatives in recognition of Linda's outstanding work in the conservation field as well as her many other contributions to the community.
